If you’re like many of my clients, you already know a lot about diet and exercise—but, what you know isn’t working. You’re frustrated and confused, not knowing what to believe or what to do next. Simply put, you’re tired. You’re tired of feeling uncomfortable, tired of trying to diet again, yet afraid of doing nothing. Either way, you do know this:
- You want to feel confident
- You want to feel attractive
- You want to feel accomplished
- You want to feel empowered
- You want to feel better about yourself
Imagine how good it will feel to lose weight. No more hiding, you effortlessly slip into your clothes and, well…life is just easier. You, at your ideal weight—confident, energized, and powerful—a better person, a better partner, a better parent.
WHY CAN’T I GET IT RIGHT? WHY IS THIS SO HARD?
You want to reach your desired weight once and for all. Even if you know what to do, you can’t seem to stick with it. Or maybe you’re unsure which diet to try…the Mediterranean diet, ketogenic diet, low carb diet, paleo diet, vegan diet, intermittent fasting, plant-based diet, longevity diet, or carnivore diet, meal replacements? It’s all so confusing.
You’ve been motivated at times, but then something happens…stress, juggling the family schedule, fatigue, hunger, tired of eating the same thing. You say to yourself, “I just need a break! I don’t care. I’m eating pizza, cupcakes, a bag of chips or whatever I feel like eating!” But then your indulgence is followed by guilt, remorse, and fear of gaining weight. So once again:
- You commit to starting over on Monday…only to disappoint yourself on Tuesday.
- You try a cleanse or a new diet…but lose your enthusiasm in just a few days.
- You don’t eat all day because of what you ate last night…only to end the day overeating again.
- You vow to work out longer tomorrow to pay for what you ate today.
Sound familiar?
And if that’s not enough, you question why you can’t get it together, fear that you never will, and then what? Another diet, more restriction? Once again, it’s not working. Maybe, despite your best efforts, you’ve been going about it the wrong way.
I get it!
I know what it feels like to be frustrated, overwhelmed, sad, and even hopeless while trying to lose weight—to feel embarrassed about the weight you’ve gained or the weight you haven’t lost. I understand the pain of comparison, envy, isolation, defeat, and desperation. How so? By spending about 20 years on a continuous diet. Even when I managed to lose weight, I was still on a diet. Why? Because I immediately feared gaining it back. Even in my best shape, I felt like I was almost there. What a trap!
It all changed for me when I learned that weight loss is about more than diet and exercise. I agree, diet is important, but diet alone seldom gives us the results or relief we desire, especially when we lack the skills to diet successfully. We need diet for sure, but we need more. Curious? My breakthrough came when I discovered what I really wanted from weight loss and since then, maintaining my weight isn’t difficult.
You’re thinking, “What do you mean wanting something from weight loss? I just want to be thin and fit.” And skills to diet, what’s that? Here’s the simple truth: There’s usually more to thin and fit and yes, losing weight takes skills. Lasting weight loss requires an integrated approach involving the brain, body, emotions, and behaviors; diet alone rarely finishes the job.
In this way, I discovered how to lose weight from a place of inspiration rather than desperation. How do you do that, you ask?
